Oh shit. The hatchery must kill 150,000 trout fingerlings due to a deadly virus. This also affects the stocking of Long Island’s other popular trout fishing destination, the Nissequogue River. This affects my personal trout fishing opportunities as both rivers are within 35 minutes of my house, whereas the next best opportunities are off Island and don’t lend themselves to semi-spontaneous trout fishing ventures. But there is the Carman’s River, which I haven’t fished in years. Time to investigate?
Thankfully, the salwater game kicks in soon, although the recent trend of a developing dead zone in the Western Long Island Sound is not encouraging either. Maybe I’ll just have to fill my leisure time with something more sensible like bee keeping, or lawn jarts.
