Hooking them is it. Down here they all call it “jumping” Tarpon. In my mind, I don’t really need to “land” a big fish like that, too stressful on all of us. Play him asnd see if he’s got game.

Or, see if he jumps in the boat at me trying to knock me overboard.

I fished the lights around Marco last Wed. with my friend Roger and yes…Yes, we cast to 5-foot Tarpon who didn’t eat but it was a thrill just the same. We boated a 26-incher and 3 other Snook…back home here in East Naples by 2AM.

I’ve never seen tarpon in the dock lights. Usually just snook, jacks, and lookdowns.

But have fished for tarpon at night, just not fly fishing. If you’re up for drifting crabs or shrimp, the night bite for tarpon can be great in inlets, passes, and around bridges.
