Fishing Jones Is Five

Been doing this since November 2003. To celebrate, here’s a collection of photos from some of my favorite trips since then, in a pleasing slide show format.

  1. Happy Birthday Fishing Jones! Keep up the great work Pete. You need to celebrate and go catch yourself a carp for the Bday present.

BTW great soundtrack to the slide show

Pete, congratulations! Although I havent been able to fish with you in over a year, fishingjones is a favorite place for me to visit and keep up with your adventures. Keep up the awesome work.

  7. Pete,

Fishing Jones was, for the most part, one of the first fly fishing/fishing blogs. Long before most people even knew what a “blog” was. Now there are 1,720,000 “fishing blogs” (at least that’s how many results are returned for a google search on “fishing blog”) …. Anyway, I know that I am not the only one that knows and appreciates “Fishing Jones” as being something more significant than “just another blog” …. And, there is some stat like “there is a blog created every second” .. and I suggest that there is also a blog that gets deleted or abondoned every second. So, 5 years of proven updates, quality content and puting your personal blood sweat and tears into it … because a “good blog” just can not be “good” without doing those things .. simply, not possible. So, kudos to you and happy 5th birthday to “Fishing Jones” .. Look forward to 5 more years of “fishing jones” ..

ps… I have often wondered, actually, what does “Fishing jones” mean? … how did you come up with the name?

  8. Banned Joe

You need to try this new swedish thing called jogging or yogging. It might be a soft J. Apparently you just run around for a while.

  9. Named in honor of my short lived college band called The Jones Boys. I think our lone setlist went Bad Moon Rising–>Uncle John’s and back into Bad Moon Rising.

  10. pete — very interesting. kinda like when you read the lyrics to a song that you like and realized that the actual lyrics are different from what you had been singing. i thought “fishing jones” referred to “jonesing” for something .. you know, like “i am jones’ing to go fishing” …

PS.. i like that setlist — reminds me of a “band” i played in, in boston .. i think our setlist went something like Sweet Home Alabama -> knocking on heavens door and back into sweet home alabama! .. sometimes, depending on the “crowd” and amount of extra carricular activites .. we would forgoes “knocking on heavens door” .. and just take “sweet home alabama” right through the night …

hey, happy birthday. apparently, i am a little late to the fishing jones party if you are the ancient age of 5. but, based on the quality of the lies, propaganda and photoshop dispensed here, not really surprised you have been around that long.

i second the mistaken jones assumption. and for jeremy above, i believe that kidrock has adapted sweet home to pay tribute to an experience similar to yours. or something:

  12. Kid Rock is in it to win it like Yzerman:

The band name was based on the jonesing definition which you describe, so that works. And when I say lone setlist, I mean, we played one set. Then we realized we sucked and decided on whippits and air hockey.

a little blurry on my screen/connection, but i think there was a helmetless craig mactavish sighting in that little playoff gem.

  14. Definitely MacTavish. I think that Blues team might have been the last go-round for Gretzky and the rest of the Rent-an-Oiler crew. Man do I miss when hockey was relevant.

FJ– Try some college hockey… Live college hockey is still top notch. Not that Boston needs a better sports storyline of late, but there’s great college hockey, w/ BU, BC, Northeastern, Harvard, UNH, and Maine.. UNH/UMaine is a fun rivalry.. tickets are somewhat constrained, but cheap.. good stuff all around.

I was party to ‘The Jones Band Session’. If ‘Fishing Jones’ was inspired by that woozy evening, it’s the *only* good thing to have come out of it.

  16. I will go on record as saying that college hockey is the most underrated, underappreciated sport in North America. Viva college hockey.

  17. Happy Belated Birthday Fishing Jones!! FIVE years. Wow. What is the 5 year anniversay present supposed to be anyway…isn’t it wood?

Well aside from how creepy that sounds CONGRATS. glad you’re here. And thanks for the retrospective slideshow. you’ve covered some ground — and we’re lucky you share it all with us

  18. Thanks, and I’ll take that to mean I should treat myself to a new bamboo fly rod. Or maybe some plywood cutout folk art:

  19. that is flippin hysterical.

and YES. I meant it in the most appropriate way.

    hey, seriously congrats. 5 years.

  20. Really awesome slide show man.. Happy Five that really is not be to being taken lightly… I love the site and keep up the great work my friend… Alex

  21. Marco Esquandolas

Like they say at Kenny Roger’s Roasters

“It’s the wood that makes it good”

  22. Thanks Alex. Hopefully we’ll get to try for bluefin again in 2009.
