The following is an actual email exchange between me and a friend who’s a recalcitrant surfcaster… SURF CASTER: Boats are for pussies. I am not much of a trout fisherman but if I saw this again I’d feel compelled to act. It’s 10:30 at night and I have my back turned to my office window but I can hear the snow melt dripping off the roof. Soon it’s pitchers and catchers and then stalking the beach half frozen because you chose to believe an Internet post that the schoolies were in. Tomorrow, I’m going to use a wire cutter to clip the hook of an obsolescent fly back to the bend and tie it to the tippet I reeled in back in November and stand in the park down the street and cast. That, or I’m going to watch Tarpon again. Either way, it won’t be…
