You may run across this ad at some point in your perusals, and think to yourself, Hey the people who put this out must really care about the environment in Bristol Bay. They would never do anything to screw it up, right? As Bob Dylan once sang, “propaganda all is phony.” Go to the website of the pebblepartnership.com and find out what the originators are all about, extracting resources. They want you to be excited that they’re sitting on top of what “has the potential to be a world-class mine that will benefit all Alaskans for generations to come.” Sure… Here’s where an ad like this fits in the big scheme of believability: And here is our audio-visual editorial response…

BRISTOL BAY: Bid for Loot, Stop Wilderness Plunder

The Sportsman’s Alliance for Alaska is auctioning off a motherload of stuff, from fishing trips to rods, reels, shades, gear, art…anything related to fly fishing that you can get your mitts on. The good thing is you can go decadent and spend way too much on fly fishing like you already do anyway, but this it’s time for a great cause: Stopping the Pebble Mine project in Bristol Bay, Alaska. New items will be available for auction every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday through June 18th.
